Miami Beach has a solid history of letting things fall apart.

  The Miami Herald wrote an article in 1984 stating the the city stopped maintaining this pier in 1973.  This pier was then demolished in 1984.


A new pier was built in built further to the south in 1979,  in 2004 the structure exhibited significant deterioration and deemed to have reached the end of its service life. Estimated 25 years of life. 

New pier will cost is scheduled to be completed in 2014. The estimated cost of the project is $4.8 million.
